COMPANY OVERVIEW 

The Prairie Payments Joint Venture (PPJV) is a joint venture owned by three Prairie centrals created to digitally transform and modernize payment services for credit unions in the Prairies. PPJV’s goal is to ensure prairie credit unions are competitive in payments and have access to efficient, modernized payments processing infrastructure.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Application Developer is responsible to create, maintain, and support applications required to run the various processes at PPJV based on structures defined by the Senior Director, Application Development and Business Solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Software Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-native applications using C# and the .NET framework. Architect microservices-based solutions that leverage Azure services such as App Service, Azure Functions, AKS, Azure Blob Storage, and more
  • Front-end Development: Build modern, responsive web applications using React or Angular. Integrate front-end components with backend services to create seamless user experiences.
  • Database Management: Design and optimize databases using Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) for transactional data, along wit
  • Automated Testing: Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure high-quality, secure, and performant applications
  • Code Review: Participate in and lead code reviews to maintain high code quality, enforce coding standards, and ensure best practices are followed throughout the development lifecycle
  • System Integration: Integrate cloud and on-premises services via RESTful APIs, messaging queues, and other integration patterns. Work with third-party services and libraries while minimizing unnecessary dependencies
  • Documentation: Write clear and concise technical documentation for reference and reporting purposes
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, and other developers to deliver high-quality software that meets business requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve application issues, bottlenecks, and performance problems in a timely manner
  • Support: Provide support for production environments, including 24/7 on-call support as needed, to ensure seamless operations and rapid incident resolution in alignment with established SLAs

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in C# development with a strong background in .NET and cloud-native application design on Azure
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud applications on Azure
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, ARM templates/Bicep, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and serverless architectures is essential
  • Demonstrated experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, with a preference for React. Experience with Angular is also acceptable
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including complex query optimization, stored procedures, schema decision, and performance tuning
  • Experience implementing automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, UI tests) and managing CI/CD pipelines to support agile development cycles
  • Strong understanding of OOP principles and design patterns
  • Experience with RESTful API design and implementation
  • Proficient in version control systems, particularly Git
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development processes using tools such as JIRA or similar
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Education equivalent to completion of a two year diploma training program at a college or technical school that provides a recognized specific certificate, diploma or license

RELATIONSHIPS 

  • Internal: Primary contact with immediate department and other organization contacts as required
  • External: Contact with credit unions, other financial institutions, other affiliates, vendors and suppliers

Ideally, candidates will be located in one of our current customer areas of Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba
